As you might expect (Andrew O'Keefe is in it, after all), tickets have been selling like Biblical hot cakes for the arena production of Jesus Christ Superstar.
Brisbane fans, in particular, have been snapping up tickets at an alarming rate, leading a second show to be announced for Wednesday June 12 at Brisbane Entertainment Centre to meet demand. It's on sale now. Where once there was one show, now there are two — it's a miracle!
Starring Tim Minchin as Judas Iscariot, Jon Stevens as Pontius Pilate, erstwhile Spice Girl Melanie C as Mary Magdalene, critically acclaimed newcomer Ben Forster in the title role, and O'Keefe as King Herod, the production has generated all sorts of buzz since it was announced. Its run in the UK in late 2012 broke audience records, with 74,000 fans (!) seeing the show in its opening weekend.
Andrew Lloyd Webber is pumped to bring the show to Oz: "I'm thrilled that Australia is to be the first leg for our international tour of the new Jesus Christ Superstar. We had an overwhelming reception when the show toured the country for an astounding 84 dates in 1992. I hope this new production, which has been totally re-conceived for the 21st century, will entertain a new generation of Australians as well as those who already love the show."
