One of Melbourne's premier independent art spaces, The Motley Bauhaus is levelling up by moving into a new Carlton location.
Home to a host of multidisciplinary practices (theatre, performance, music, visual art, film, podcasts, pop-up events, workshops), the new Motley Bauhaus venue (a 350-person capacity) includes a 75-seat black box theatre, a massive gallery space, separate cabaret stage, full-sized recording studio, working artists' studios, and a dark room plus two separate bar areas.
Originally established in 2018 on Scotchmer Street in Fitzroy North, The Motley Bauhaus has become an integral part of Melbourne's independent art and performance scene, offering creatives an amazing space to practice their respective crafts.
"I am so excited and scared, but also thrilled to be opening this new space," Motley Bauhaus founder Jason Cavanagh says.
"It feels really wild to be doing this right now, with everything that's going on.
"It's been a tough, tough time for artists, for the industry as a whole. This is a massive investment in our arts community at a time when it is desperately needed.
"I think art thrives in adversity and I'm really keen to explore and support that."
Although the Carlton location has already hosted a number of events, the new space will officially open 20 January. The event is free, but booking a ticket is recommended.
The Motley Bauhaus is located at 118 Elgin Street, Carlton (Melbourne).
