THE LUME Melbourne Welcomes Van Gogh Back With An Exciting New Twist

'Van Gogh' at THE LUME Melbourne
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Two years ago, ‘Van Gogh’ broke attendance records with 1.8 million visitors across Australia and New Zealand – and it’s coming back to THE LUME Melbourne for a limited season.

The multi-sensory exploration invites audiences to experience the vivid colours of Vincent Van Gogh’s world, accompanied by dynamic soundscapes, curated scents, and tactile elements bringing the artist’s iconic works to life.

For its return season, THE LUME Melbourne is building on the timeless appeal of Van Gogh, with the world premiere of a shared Virtual Reality (VR) experience called ‘Finding Vincent’.

‘Finding Vincent’ offers audiences a deeper, more collaborative journey into Van Gogh’s life.

“We have always embraced the fusion of art and technology to reimagine how audiences engage with masterpieces,” Grande Experiences/THE LUME Melbourne Founder Bruce Peterson says. “This shared VR innovation is the latest step in that evolution, merging creativity with cutting-edge digital capability to create moments of awe that go beyond the traditional gallery visit.”

The VR addition is immersive art, in a way you never dreamt you could experience.

Plus, The Sunflower Room returns. It’s a boundless realm, where Van Gogh’s iconic sunflowers stretch endlessly in every direction with vibrant yellows and golden blooms floating between floor and ceiling. The Starry Night Room too gives attendees the chance to immersive themselves in another Van Gogh masterpiece – swirling stars, rolling hills, and luminous moonlit skies.

When you’re done taking it all in, you can head to the Artist Studio, where guided tutorials will introduce you to the techniques behind Van Gogh’s most iconic works.

“Van Gogh’s work speaks to people in deeply personal yet universally shared ways. His art isn’t just about seeing; it’s about feeling—together. This new shared VR experience brings that connection to life in a way that’s never been done before,” THE LUME Melbourne General Manager Joshua Ogilvie says.

Tickets are on sale now.

‘Van Gogh’ is on at THE LUME Melbourne from Boxing Day.
