Coming after the release of his debut EP 'Part Of The Picture', Aboriginal and African-American artist Sachém presents hybrid stage work 'The Bigger Picture’.
'The Bigger Picture' is anchored in music and spoken word poetry, but also features dance, visual projection and film. Plus, the performance will include the award-winning 22-piece Matt Hsu's Obscure Orchestra.
'The Bigger Picture' will be celebrating its world premiere at Redland Performing Arts Centre (Queensland).
Sachém won the 2017 Oodgeroo Noonuccal Poetry Prize through Queensland Poetry Festival and 2020 Brisbane City Council Best Original Song Award.
Since the 2021 release of 'Part Of The Picture', Sachém has been busy – travelling around Australia and the world to develop this show which explores and dissects the reasons, motivations and stories behind the EP.
Like any busy artist, Sachém is constantly on the go, and there are a few things he simply can't leave home without. Before the world premiere of 'The Bigger Picture' at Redland Performing Arts Centre, Sachém lists five in particular.
One
Crocs or Birks. Whether it’s at home, the studio, soundcheck or just stepping out of the house, a 'must-have' are my Crocs or Birkenstocks. Sounds super basic but they really are a game changer. Just plug and play. Two
Rolling papers and lighter. The real ones know. 1 1/4 inch papers and king size. I've passed the hype stage of thinking the famous Raw brand is the superior rolling papers. True connoisseurs are more likely to go for the OCBs.Three
Juice. I can’t go a day without a fresh squeeze. Shout-out to Insane Açai in West End, home of the best juices and smoothies. Order the Summer Days with Pineapple and thank me later.Four
Issey Miyake Pour Homme Cologne. Simple but effective and simple is best. If you’ve been around me, you’ll know that this is my smell. I keep a bottle at home and in my car. You never know when you might need a little top-up.Five
AirPods. Processing the world around you to transform into art can be tiring and taxing. Sometimes all you need to do is put your AirPods in and tap out of reality for a quick second. Plus I love that I don’t have to hold my phone to make calls or change the song.'The Bigger Picture' plays Redland Performing Arts Centre (Queensland) 28 October.
