The theme of Sydney Dance Company’s 2025 season, led by Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela, is ‘Come Closer’.


The programme will bring together iconic and emerging Australian creatives, with the formidable Sydney Dance Company ensemble. It’s an adventurous experience where they year’s vision and collaborations set the journey for audiences which will live on through touring and programming, defining the future of contemporary dance.

“I’m delighted to reveal the exciting journey we have in store for 2025 – an incredibly beautifully crafted blend of new creations, powerful collaborations, and national and international tours,” Rafael Bonachela says.

Things begin with an encore of Rafael Bonachela’s ‘Somos’, following an acclaimed 2023 season.

Then, electric triple bill ‘Continuum’ will showcase new works from three trailblazing Australian choreographers. It includes ‘Unungkati Yantatja’ by renowned choreographer Stephen Page AO, a world premiere from Rafael Bonachela, and ‘Somewhere Between Ten And Fourteen’ by Keir Choreographic Award recipient, Tra Mi Dinh.

‘New Breed’ will return as a showcase of the country’s most exciting emerging choreography in 2025. It presents new works created by four emerging choreographers, and a glimpse into the future of Australian dance.

Alongside the 2025 season ‘Club Origami’, an interactive family show choreographed by Takeshi Matsumoto, returns following last year’s Australian premiere. Plus, INDance: Sydney Dance Company’s acclaimed programme which showcases independent dance artists. It returns for its fourth edition, supported by The Neilson Foundation.

Sydney Dance Company will also embark on national and international tours, presenting repertoire across Australia and beyond. The 2024 hit ‘Twofold’ will be presented in major international institutions and festivals, shining a light on Australian dance on a global scale.

“The opportunity to bring choreographer and dancer, Stephen Page, back to our company to work with the ensemble and create a new work in response to the music of William Barton is a very special and important moment,” Rafael Bonachela says. “This work will be the first time these Australian icons have collaborated, which is such a momentous occasion, and for William to be joined live on stage by the Omega Ensemble makes it all the more special.”

“We were also blown away by Tra Mi Dinh’s captivating piece in the 2023 New Breed programme, and this triple bill is the perfect moment to bring this to the mainstage. And by popular demand, we’re proud to bring back ‘Somos’, an emotive work performed in the round which breaks down the walls between dancer and audience.”
