Equal parts sexy, smart and dangerous, pin-up girl Vorpal Suicide is as cute as a button.
Pixie Rose's life was turned upside down last June when she was chosen as the first Australian Suicide Girl in four years to dance for the Blackheart Burlesque on stage. In under a year, she has toured America and enticed audiences with her tongue-in-cheek humour and raw erotic sensuality under the stage name Vorpal Suicide.
Now that she's returned home to host, choreograph and tour a brand new set, she can hardly believe her luck. “Hosting it at home is a little bit more daunting than in American to be honest because I know people in each state who are coming,” she laughs. Since 2001, tens of thousands of models have submitted millions of photos to suicidegirls.com hoping to earn the official Suicide Girl status, but only a few are bestowed the honour. “I woke up one morning in June and my Instagram was going crazy, my Facebook was going crazy, people were messaging me left, right and centre,” Pixie says. “I'd been entered into a competition with 12 other girls and we had to have 3,000 shares on Facebook which is just ridiculous. I mean, likes, yeah okay, Suicide Girls' page has got five million followers but to get that many shares is crazy. The public voted and I got in.”
Some parts geeky, other parts kinky, but all together sexy, the Blackheart Burlesque tour pays tribute to beloved pop culture hallmarks such as 'The Avengers', 'Game Of Thrones' and 'Pulp Fiction'. “A lot of references I had no idea about. I'd never seen 'Kill Bill'. I'd never watched 'Star Wars', I'd never seen 'Game Of Thrones'. I'm a bit old school. I like my ‘90s shows like 'Sweet Valley High' and 'Saved By The Bell'. I will sit down and watch 'Sabrina, The Teenage Witch' back to front. But this time I've designed my own solo. It is a bit of surprise but I'll give you a hint. If you pull my hair up and put me in the right outfit I look like Lara Croft.”
The petite Aussie showgirl lets loose on stage, a paradox to her day-to-day life where she’s more reserved. “I'm actually quite shy,” she says. “I'm fine to get naked with my friends but I'll look at other girls and the way they're dressed in public and I can't do that. But as soon as you have a camera there and I become 'Vorpal' — I'm switched on and that's what a lot of the girls are like.
“On the average day I look like everyone else just a bit more colourful. It's about the fact that you've gotta be who you are. It's a modelling site for girls who encourage other girls who might not look like the tall, long haired, big breasted stereotype. We might not look that but we're just as good.”
Now a tour veteran, Pixie wasn’t always the confident performer derobing on stage that she now is. “I told the American audiences last tour: ‘I don't know many people here so will you guys be my friends?’ And from that moment on I connected with them. I'd make them join in at every moment that they could. I'd have them doing scream-offs, one side of the room to the other, and whoever was the loudest I'd face that way and pull my top up.”
What started as a passion project has grown into so much more for Pixie, who’s now a model recruiter for the Suicide Girls, a job she never imagined undertaking. “I spend all day, every day looking online for babes, asking them to pretty much get naked. So it's the best job in the world really.”
