Local award-winning writers are the focus of Stella Day Out – a free, one-day festival of great writing and great ideas in Brisbane.
The strong Queensland focus of Stella Day Out features award-winning authors Emily O’Grady, Kristina Olsson, Mirandi Riwoe, Kris Kneen, Laura Jean McKay, Debra Dank and Anita Heiss.
“We are incredibly excited to bring this free event to Brisbane and help celebrate and amplify the work of Queensland authors,” Executive Director and CEO Fiona Sweet says. “We are also thrilled to hold the event in partnership with Avid Reader, the independent bookshop we all love. We hope this is the first of many Stella events in Brisbane.”
Stella is committed to breaking down barriers to literary events, celebrating original, excellent and engaging works. The second edition of Stella Day Out for 2024 will be held at West End Brisbane’s Avid Reader. In the first session of the day, Emily O’Grady, Kristina Olsson and Mirandi Riwoe come together to have a discussion about the stages of an author’s career.
Then for the second session, authors Kris Kneen and Laura Jean McKay will unravel the mysterious art of poetry, and short stories. . . In a panel moderated by Raelee Lancaster.
Wrapping things up for the day are award-winning authors Debra Dank and Anita Heiss, as they explore the vital topic of reclaiming and revitalising First Nations languages, moderated by Cheryl Leavy.
