Spiegel'esque: A Cabaret For The Senses

Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The sensational, stimulating, sumptuous 'Spiegel'esque' is in Leichhardt, New South Wales, for a season of theatrical cabaret like no other.

Presented by Vass Productions and Kermond Creative, 'Spiegel'esque' urges you to leave your real life at the door and enter a wonderful new location featuring world class entertainment.

Host Vayne will take you on a serendipitous romp into the decadent land of cabaret, where song, dance and slapstick merge together to create entertainment that will both mesmerise and titillate.

Daring, quirky and sexy, 'Spiegel'esque' is cabaret, but not as you probably know it.

The show is set in the stunning 97-year-old Spiegel Zelt – the smallest spiegeltent in the world. A star in her own right, the Tent of Mirrors is undoubtedly the ultimate cabaret venue.

Like every old school theatre, there are ghosts, memories and secrets woven in the velvet canopies, cut-glass mirrors and romantic booths.

So what exactly is it that goes on during 'Spiegel'esque'?

Well, Performer Wayne Scott Kermond (Vayne) sums it up perfectly: “Expect a non-stop, high energy evening of song and dance, comedy, vaudeville, cabaret, burlesque and buffoonery performed by an incredibly talented cast. Top notch, pure entertainment!”

He also assures that it's not like anything you've ever walked into before: “It’s also not just a stop-start-stop-clap format. The acts all flow, one after the other, to create a seamless journey, led by the MC (me!) that makes the audience laugh, gasp and leave with a great big smile on their face,” Wayne says.

“It has everything from great songs and music, aerial acts, tap dancing – you name it – set in the unique and really intimate 97-year-old Spiegel Zelt. We’re practically performing in people’s laps, it’s that intimate!”

When it comes to who this show might appeal to, Wayne knows that fans of entertainment will feel right at home.

“This show should appeal to anyone who loves musical theatre, burlesque, comedy and generally anyone who fancies being entertained.”

There will be plenty of time to witness the show, too. It runs all the way through until the middle of January.

“There is no other show like 'Spiegel'esque',” Wayne says, confidently. “Come join us as we throw the most exciting party Leichhardt has seen in a long time. It's going to be an eclectic mix of people hanging out together and having a great night. We have assembled the best cabaret artists around. I am so excited to be a part of it. Watch out Sydney, here we come.”

'Spiegel'esque' shimmies into the Leichhardt Spiegel Zelt from 23 November-15 January.
