Reuniting with his 'The Pirates Of Penzance' partner Simon Gallaher, Jon English dons his crown as King Arthur to lead the side-splitting journey of 'Spamalot'.
With an all-singing, all-dancing cast – including Julie Anthony and Frank Woodley – King Arthur and the Knights Of The Round Table venture off on a jaunty quest to find the renowned relic. 'Spamalot' is an award winning musical that brings the cult 1975 film 'Monty Python And The Holy Grail' to the stage. Featuring the iconic 'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life' tune, there's no shortage of jokes about French people, cow-flinging, fish-slapping and other classics.
Jon, a man of few words, describes the production (and a little about the legend himself):
Describe this production in a sentence?
Luxury.
Your fav line in the show and why?
"Just stay here and make sure he doesn't leave!"
Fill in the blanks:
'Spamalot' will… explode… and leaves you… very silly… but won't… hurt much... and is surprisingly… lacking in cheese.
You're a singer, performer and all around entertainer, but who are you when you're at home?
A bit of a slob.
If you weren't an entertainer, what/where would you be?
A lumberjack leaping from tree to tree.
Favourite 'Monty Python' moment?
I told you once.
How was it reuniting with Simon Gallaher?
Wonderful.
If there was a movie based on your life, who would play you and what characteristics would they have to channel?
If there was a movie based on your life, who would play you and what characteristics would they have to channel? Probably John Waters as we get mixed up anyway, he'll have to channel my inner-hoon because he's a bit classy.
What do you want audiences to say as they leave?
"Where's the fxxxing car!"
And what will you be saying to yourself on opening night?
Thank God there's another one tomorrow, I can get it right.
'Spamalot' plays at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre 2-5 October.
