A high school formal is a rite of passage in Australia – a way to wave goodbye to those years spent in classrooms, gyms and halls and wave hello to what’s to come. But for a lot of queer people, high school and its eventual formal weren’t excellent times.
The wild world of teenagedom is made a lot more overwhelming with rife heteronormativity and the added pressures of trying to figure out where you fit in on the sexuality spectrum and the gender spectrum. So, Shandy is presenting ‘Shandy Formal: Queer NYE Party’ to give all those kids who couldn’t celebrate their formal to the fullest extent, a glimmering second chance to do so.
It’s more queer, more fun, and more fabulous. . . And while the theme for NYE is ‘Formal’, the dress code and festivities are going to be ‘Loose’. Dress however you want, bring whoever you want, and be your authentic self.
There’ll be plenty of talent involved to dazzle and delight all attendees. . .

It’s time to step into a rented stretch Hummer, pin on a corsage, and be intoxicated by the scents of fake tan, guava Cruisers and Lynx Africa, thanks to ‘Shandy Formal’.
