See Gatsby In Style

The Great Gatsby
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Judging by those spectacular trailers — and Baz Luhrmann's CV — The Great Gatsby is set to be the most stylish film of the year. So you won't want to feel like a goddamn commoner when you watch it, will you?

Palace Centro Cinemas will be taking a step back in time in celebration of the opening night of Luhrmann's adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel. A night of 1920s elegance — and fine wine — is planned for those attending. Guests will be encouraged to dress up in their best vintage attire, with prizes awarded for the best dressed; basically, this is a chance to visit that alternate reality where Prohibition is still in place and you're a filthy rich bootlegger.

Frequently cited as one of the great American novels, Gatsby follows up and coming writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York in an era of scintillating jazz, bootleg kings and loose morals. It's pretty good.
