Rumour Has It @ Riverside Parramatta Review

Naomi Price, dressed in Adele’s signature black frock and a ginger wig, takes the mic belting out the show’s namesake song, 'Rumour Has It'. It’s a winning rendition.

Talented as 'The Voice Australia' star is, the powerhouse vocals of Adele simply do not read true and at no point am I convinced that I'm seeing Adele live. But this is a show and not a concert, and what Price lacks in girth and gusto she makes up for with spirit and sass as she adopts Adele’s presence on stage to a T.

Three songs in and Price finally address her audience with a blaring Tottenham accent. After an initial reactionary chuckling, the audience is quick to settle allowing Adele’s wit and humour to start to drip from Price’s mouth like honey as she spins tales of her rise to fame.

She reminisces about when she used to sing Spice Girls songs to her mum before singing a megamix of their greatest hits and she reminds us that she used to study with Amy Winehouse in London’s BRIT School before covering her breakout 'Rehab'. She even alludes to recent events such as her “fuck up” at the Grammys this year.

Like the diva in her real concerts, she chats with the audience constantly as though they’re best mates and mouths off in every other sentence. Then mouths off again in apology. It works and the audience appreciates the sentiment.

Many clap when prompted and a few even get up to give Price and co. a standing ovation as they close the night off with a megamix of Adele’s greatest hits, naturally.
