With a swag of spoken-word and slam-poetry events happening across Brisbane in the last year or so, a burgeoning scene of ‘uber-literate’ hipsters are taking the city by storm.
One such event is Ruckus Slam, which will host its final next Wednesday, 19th November. Ruckus Slam is where poets, rappers and storytellers battle it out monthly for the title of slam-Spartan god. The rules are simple: each participant is allowed two minutes to perform their original work and the crowd gets to decide who gets the glory.
Next week, all previous winners will return – with a couple of wildcard spots open to the public – battling it out to the death; well, to the death of their literary credibility – not actual death. UK cabaret act Anthony Anaxagorou will also be part of the night’s entertainment; so make the most of your hump day and support the local arts scene.
It all takes place at the New Globe Theatre on Wednesday 19th November.
