Ridiculous comedy? Magically stupid stuff? Comedy duo The Listies (Rich and Matt) have it all and more in 'ROFL’.
The award-winning pair are sure to have audiences rolling on the floor laughing with their brand of 'kidult comedy' featuring toilet paper cannons, a real life Cowasaurus, lullabies of doom, detachable legs, a panoply of puns, and possibly too many Aldi gags.
Things are going to get hilarious, ridiculous, and possibly hazardous, as The Listies tackle the terrifyingly torturous family situation of bed time.
We find out some more from Rich and Matt before the show at Queensland's Redland Performing Arts Centre.
How does a new show form and what sorts of things do you do to expand it?
M: This show started out as a normal average comedy show, but then one night, we were working on this show in a science laboratory, and it got bitten by a radioactive spider. . .
R: No that’s not right, we were working in a bridal shop in Flushing, Queens when. . .
M: No! The real story is that we were in West Philadelphia (born and raised) on the playground was where we spend most of our days. . .
R: Next question please!
As a duo you’ve performed a bunch of shows. What’s your favourite thing about performing?
The high energy of the kids and the amount of audience interaction means that no two shows are the same. We also like the laughing and the clapping. Also some places have snacks and even a Nespresso machine backstage!
And what are you most looking forward to about playing to Redland Performing Arts Centre audiences?
Their laughs, their ideas and their joy, we look forward less to the projectiles they might throw. Tomatoes are okay, but no pineapples thanks!
You’ve performed to older people and younger people. What remains the same for both audiences?
Everybody poops. But hopefully not IN the show. We’re looking at you dad.
You’re an award-winning act too. What does it mean to receive accolades for your work?
R: We have won awards but haven’t received any accolades.
M: What is an accolade?
R: It’s a type of automatic lawnmower, like a Roomba for outside.
M: Cool! More accolades please.
Why should people be more serious about being silly?
This is a typo – people should be more silly about being serious! It’s hard, but some people manage it very well. Look at politicians. They are amazing at it.
What’s next for The Listies?
A nap probably. Then TOURING, follow us on social media to keep up!
'ROFL' plays Redland Performing Arts Centre (Queensland) on 28-29 September.
