[Update: 8 December, 2023: New shows have been added for Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. Details below]
The groundbreaking, iconic ‘Riverdance’ will present a 25th anniversary spectacular when it returns to Australia in early 2024.
It’s ‘Riverdance’ as you’ve never seen it before – a powerful, stirring reinvention of this beloved favourite celebrated the world over for its GRAMMY Award-winning score and thrilling energy. Composer Bill Whelan has re-recorded the mesmerising soundtrack, and Producer Moya Doherty and Director John McColgan have reimagined the show with innovative lighting, video, stage, and costumes.
Since ‘Riverdance’ first began performances in Dublin, the show has been seen live by more than 30 million people across the globe, has played more than 15,000 performances, and played throughout 49 countries across 6 continents.
It swept across Australia in 1997, and captured the hearts of audiences. It achieved extraordinary success down under, touring five times between 1997 and 2012 and selling 830,000 tickets.
It all began when ‘Riverdance’ performed as part of the ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ interval in 1994, and to this day it’s often considered as the most well-known interval act in the contest’s history. The initial performers including lead dancers Michael Flatley and Jean Butler were credited for transforming what had, up to that point, been seen as traditional Irish dance, into something brand-new.
From this seven-minute interval, a full show was born, and that show is now celebrating a triumphant 25 years of global admiration and success.
Tickets are on sale 9 October at 9am (local time).
