Alicia is former South Aussie living in Melbourne. She has been sharing her opinions online about comedy, theatre, and films for the past twelve years.

Total and pure joy is the only way to describe this gorgeous show – the perfect little escape if you need an evening away from reality right now.

Starring Casey Donovan in the lead role as Deloris Van Cartier – aka Sister Mary Clarence, this production of an all-time classic is just so absolutely fun, it would be a challenge not to be smiling from ear to ear as the curtain falls. The set is stunning, the costumes sparkle and the songs are set to wriggle their way into your ears for days to follow.

While Donovan absolutely shines in the lead role, the talented cast help to make this production an absolute winner. Genevieve Lemon delivers a fantastic performance as the stern, yet endearing Mother Superior and it was a real treat to see Aussie icon Rhonda Burchmore take to the stage to deliver a playful and uninhibited performance in the role of Sister Mary Lazarus.

Even the villains are a likable bunch in this show, with the scenes featuring gangster Curtis Jackson, wonderfully played by James Bryers, along with his gaggle of goons, being some of the most fun in the show. The goofy slapstick comedy on display by the gangsters is incredibly well choreographed, with the crowd laughing at their every move.

You might want to pack your sunglasses to shield your eyes from the never-ending parade of sequins that make up the gorgeous costumes in this production – but if that’s your kind of thing, then you’ll be in heaven. The set is topped off with clever lighting design to immerse the crowd in a church-like environment, the light shining through as if through stained glass windows from above.

For lovers of the film, this production of 'Sister Act' will certainly keep you happy and for those coming in cold, it’s a delightful evening out that will likely convert them into believers!
