The big top in Victoria Park presented a spectacle of dance, music, muscle, and a delightful sprinkling of comedy as the story of 'Lassu' unfolded, creating an evening that was out of this world.
The show opened with a whip-cracking dance routine that reverberated through the big top, heralding the beginning of a high octane performance. First up was a dazzling, spinning, shiny disco ball (with a human attached to it!). Possibly the third secret member of Daft Punk.
Tying the wonderful story of the evening together was the space rodeo clown, keeping the crowd laughing between acts and setting the stage for the array of jaw-dropping feats.
The acrobatics began with a sinewy ball of muscle balancing and rotating with uncanny precision, every moment of the performance was a testament to human skill and strength. A Shania Twain-inspired dance routine brought a sassy flair and raised the heart rates in the room.
Next up, a slack rope act that had the audience on the edge of their seats. With black slippers gliding like twinkle toes across the rope, the performer added a thrilling touch by juggling one-handed while precariously perched on a ladder. The degree of difficulty? A solid 9.9, but why not aim for 10 and throw in a unicycle and a flawless dismount, it needs to be seen to be believed.
The show continued to push boundaries from the bizarre to brilliant. A strong contender for 'best moustache in Fringe' delivered some hilarious moments as he appeared to either eat a balloon, or perhaps the balloon ate him, only to regurgitate it moments later. The comedy gave way to tension as knives, blindfolds and bow and arrows entered the mix, a performance with no trust issues whatsoever.
Chaps and rhinestones were aplenty as the general theme of fun and energy pulsed throughout the night, with frequent clap alongs from the audience and some pony riding.
Things began to heat up, literally, with a fire breathing, flaming bubble bath act that pushed the boundaries, holding the burn just past the point of comfortable. There is a fine line between pleasure and pain.
The pace never slowed, with a fluid acrobatic performance of two men intertwined with poise, control, and strength, a new take on barrel racing and a mesmerising, powerful hoop routine. The crowd and performers' energy surged to the finale, a spellbinding rope routine to find the missing golden Lassu and return balance to the universe.
'Lassu' delivered a night of unforgettable circus cabaret, leaving the audience spontaneously clapping, cheering, and utterly captivated. Climb aboard the rocket ship – you will love the journey.
