Far more than a tasty treat, the tenth anniversary celebration of delicious drag cabaret 'YUMMY' is a sumptuous feast from beginning to end.
Exploding onto the stage of North Melbourne’s iconic Meat Market with a burst of delightfully camp and explosive energy, the cast of 'YUMMY' are out to impress. 'Decadence' celebrates ten years of productions from the 'YUMMY' crew, a testament to their talent, skill, and beautifully-curated offering.
Jam-packed with talented performers who dazzle the crowd and leave jaws on the floor, catching 'Decadence' at this year’s Melbourne Fringe Festival is a wonderful way to spend an evening out. From the moment that hostess with the mostess Valerie Hex welcomes the crowd with glamour, flair and sassy quips, you know you’re in safe and talented (albeit large) hands. Across 75 transfixing minutes, the 'YUMMY' performers take command, demonstrating non-stop top-of-their-game professional prowess to show why this show has continued to thrill audiences around the world for a full decade.
The lighting, the staging and my goodness, the costumes – no notes, just absolute perfection. But all of that would be nothing without the breathtakingly talented cast leading the charge. As mentioned, Valerie Hex takes on the role of MC and host as well as dazzling with moves throughout. Hula hooper Hannie Helsden is a commanding presence who kicks off the evening with a routine that would make anyone want to run away and join the circus, if only to be in the presence of such brilliance around the clock. Hannie’s animated facial expressions also deserve a shout-out, transfixing the crowd in a way that invites them to join in the crazy journey as a participant, not just a viewer.

Milo Hartill’s comedic skills are a highlight, but her phenomenal voice is what will stick in your mind for days to follow. Hers is a fun and hammy moment in the show that demonstrates layers of gorgeous talent. And as for contortionist Soliana? That’s a performance that needs to be seen to be believed.
While it’s tough to choose stand-out moments from this all-round wonderful show, Jarred Dewey’s trapeze act is worth the price of admission alone. What others can barely manage in flats, he is doing in six-inch heels and looking flawless to boot.
It goes without saying that 'Decadence' simply nails it. Flawless performances from a stunningly eclectic bunch of the best drag cabaret performers in the country, this is the hottest, sexiest ticket this Fringe season!
