'Club Broadway' turned up the green sparkles and channelled their inner villains for a 'Wicked' x Halloween extravaganza of drag performances, Broadway hits, and very loud audience singing.
'Club Broadway' tours Australia and New Zealand with their own special brand of Broadway hits set to a club beat. For the Melt Festival, 'Club Broadway' staged a takeover of The Tivoli, turning the venue into a booming nightclub filled with ghouls, witches and ghosts, as party-goers dressed in their Halloween best.
DJ Dan Murphy was the perfect host. Sitting in a sparkly sequinned blazer behind his decks, he mimed along to the music, facial expressions working overtime, and got the audience riled up and excited for each and every song. He fielded quizzes, got the audience to sing the next bits of popular songs, and rounded up audience members for a best-dressed competition. He made the show so much more than a dance-fest singalong.
But for Melt, DJ Dan wasn’t alone. Gracing the stage with him were some of the country’s best drag queens, including previous contestants from 'Drag Race Down Under', much to the crowd’s glee. While two took up hosting duties, the others performed hit Broadway tunes – delighting fans. The costumes were unbelievably creative, the choreography flawless. Audience favourites included Ursula from 'The Little Mermaid', and of course the cast of 'Wicked'.
'Club Broadway' is always a really fun night out, but with the 'Wicked' theme and the Melt Festival adding extra pizzaz, it really is the place to be this festival season.
