On a beautiful balmy evening in the Pleasure Garden (worth visiting for the atmosphere of the Garden alone), the axe throwing and silent disco were in full swing. There was standing room only in the Big Top for the 'Bubble Show For Adults Only'.
The show opened with some capitalist messaging before transitioning into the bubbles; there was a little bit of smoke and more bubbles, not hinting at the bedlam to come. The soundtrack was classic, energetic, and funky, and it continued throughout the performance.
The next routine had a 'lost in space' vibe with accompanying quirky music, and the bubble wizardry started to escalate. It must take so much imagination to do that with bubbles: was it a Christmas tree? Was it a snowman? How did it defy gravity? The show had been good, clean fun to this point, with just a tease of 'adults-only' spandex.
The next act elicited constant oohs and aahs from the crowd, featuring trick after trick that have to be seen to be believed. A stripper pole routine followed, ramping up the energy. Then came a hilarious segment behind a screen that would need emojis and an X-rating to describe adequately, and was truly adults-only.
The penultimate act featured fire and flexibility, and it never ceased to surprise, leading to a bubble extravaganza crescendo. There was some clever sleight-of-hand magic, the terror (or desperate desire) of being selected for audience participation, and plenty of clowning thrown in.
It was funny, sexy, and ‘Bubble Impossible’ not to have a really good time.
