Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) has unveiled its 2016 programme covering all performance types from musical theatre to comedy, and even a little something for the kids.


RPAC's initiative provides local opportunities for community participation in arts and cultural life and encourages local creative industries and cultural entrepreneurship. This year's programme keeps to this manifesto, and provides a wide rage of performances for their audience.

Fans of drama will enjoy the legendary play 'Educating Rita', the Bell Shakespeare company's version of 'Othello' and Queensland Shakespeare Ensembles performance of 'Twelth Night' under the stars at 'Shakespeare In The Park'. Also the new historical fiction by Queensland Theatre Company, 'Motherland' will take audiences on a journey through the Russian Revolution, World War I, and the history of Brisbane.

Solo guitar music-infused drama comes in the form of 'Don Juan'. Starring Tama Matheson and Karin Schaupp, this feast of music and adventure tells the poetic tale of the seductive legend of western literature, along with his author, Lord Byron.

The story of a musical legend and her hit songs is on show in 'Always... Patsy Cline'; while Bette Midler fans will be treated to the bawdy, brash and fabulous 'The Devine Miss Bette', with Catherin Alcorn playing the lead role.

Comedy fans can enjoy to the story of four unemployed men who get themselves involved in the world of male stripping, in 'Ladies Night'. 'Babushka: Doll' is a cheeky cabaret with a whimsical look at our relationship with dolls, and 'Warmwaters' invites you into a double entendre-packed folk festival.

Dance enthusiasts have an afro-contemporary dance performance to watch out for in the form of 'Sankofa', which includes Ghanaian and Australian dancers and musicians showcasing their talents. The world tour of dance will continue on to Spain, with Flamenco Fire's 'Viva Sevilla – The Golden Age Of Flamenco!'.

Families with youngsters can entertain everyone wil 'Lily Can't Sleep', 'Hippo! Hippo! A Big New Musical Adventure' and Camille Saint-Saëns' 'Carnival Of The Animals' by Circa.

The Musical Melodies Concert Series will return with six performances, as well as 'Into The Mystic', a tribute to the Irish songwriter Van Morrison. Queensland Symphony Orchestra will perform 'Carnival In Venice', while Southern Cross Soloists will bring 'Rhapsody' to the stage.

Lovers of film don't fear, as this year's programme will once again feature masters of animation in the beloved 'Studio Ghibli Film Festival'.
