Melbourne-based Realscape Productions is determined to bring its audiences theatrical performances which push the envelope and go beyond the stage.
Part of a series of experiences taking place in complete darkness, aptly titled DARKFIELD, 'Flight' puts audiences inside a 40-foot shipping container and strips them of their senses in Brisbane.
The 'Flight' container has been expertly fitted with seats, windows, and overhead cabins from the economy section of an actual plane – so the realism is extreme.
It's a combination of binaural (3D) sound, movement and sensory deprivation set in a plane which could land safely, but as bags are stowed overhead and cabin doors close, passengers will be likened to Schrodinger's cat in a literally and figuratively dark performance. Anything could, and probably will, happen. So hold tight.

The binaural sound in this experience creates 3D stereo effects, making the listener feel as if they were present in the landscape. When this audio is recorded, it is with two microphones positioned to two ears on a human head.
“In most instances vision is our leading perception,” DARKFIELD Co-Founder David Rosenberg explains. “In the dark, we can start with the sound and create environments and characters and to allow the audience to create visuals for themselves, in their imaginations.”

DARKFIELD is also presenting 'Séance' in their shipping container, exploring the paranormal and again using soundscapes to heighten levels of realism. It explores the psychology of any given audience who have been bombarded with suggestible material, with 20 people at a time over a 20-minute period.
