The Racecourse Drive-In Cinema will re-open in May 2013 for a three-month season, giving Sydneysiders the opportunity to experience new movies and themed nights from the comfort of their cars.
The infield of Randwick Racecourse will be transformed into a 450 car capacity movie theatre (with a giant 20 x 16m screen) for each session.
The trial season in 2010 saw over 16,000 people attend 25 public sessions, and received rave reviews from the public — particularly for the Grease themed charity event, which included rollerblading waitresses and a replica of the showground featured in the film's final scene.
Racecourse Drive In Cinema founder Paul Rosenberg waxed nostalgic about his childhood and the role the Drive In played in it: "It was a special time that everyone now has the opportunity to relive with the upcoming 2013 season.
"Going to the Drive In is a great event for families, couples and friends. People arrive a couple of hours prior to the screening so they can settle in, get some popcorn and socialise with other attendees, it is so much more than just the film."
The 2013 season will include 40 public sessions running every Friday, Saturday and Sunday to the end of July.
