The terrific tale of a group of magical misfits, step once again out of the muggle realm and into the wizarding world, this time with 'Puffs'.
We all know how the story goes. A certain boy wizard whose parents are killed by a certain evil wizard goes to a certain school of wizardry and embarks on wizarding adventures with his two best friend wizards.
This, however, is not that story. This is 'Puffs, Or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years At A Certain School Of Magic & Magic'. Embark on a journey with a loveable group of misfits who just happened to be there too.
'Puffs' offers a fresh look at the familiar tale of a certain boy wizard from the perspective of three new heroes just trying to make it through wizard school.
Actress Angelina Thomson answered some questions to provide an inside look at the show.
Have you had a lot of fun working on 'Puffs'?
It certainly has been fun. It has been a learning experience as it is different to other shows I have done but I feel like I am stretching and growing in this.
How will this story differ from the one we all know and love?
This is the untold story of the underdogs... The group of teens who people don't look twice at but come out winners and still grinners!
Can you tell us a bit about the characters in the play and some of their quirks?
There are a few familiar faces that fans of a certain boy wizard will recognise and a few new Aussie characters to shake things up a bit.
It has been described as 'the feel good play you have to see', how do you think audiences will respond to this comedic piece?
Audiences will love this comedy. I saw it in Melbourne when I didn't know much about this certain boy wizard and thought it was hilarious! So audiences who are fans of the familiar books and audiences who don't know much about it will love the show!
What role do you play in 'Puffs'?
I play Megan Jones who is a young woman trying to find herself and where she fits in in this school of magic and magic. She tries to make herself as 'unpuffy' as possible but her friends help her on this journey and there is no denying that she is and always has been a Puff!
Are you excited to be performing in Brisbane's Powerhouse?
I am so excited to perform at the Brisbane Powerhouse! It is a beautiful location for an amazing day and night at the theatre!
Have you got any advice for young people seeking to follow a career in theatre similar to your own?
Well the best advice I have been given is to 'do you' the best you can. Work hard and don't try to be someone else because there is only one you, and you are perfect at that!
How long has the company been preparing and rehearsing for these shows?
I was a newby along with a few others, joining for the Sydney and Brissy seasons. We had almost three weeks of rehearsals in Sydney before opening night and will only have a day of rehearsals in Brissy before we tech the show. But we all do our own work so we are prepared for these rehearsals together as it moves pretty fast!
Are you a 'Harry Potter' fan yourself and if so which house would you choose?
I wasn't as huge a fan as some, but did my research and now I love it. I did a certain online quiz and found out I am a real life Puff!
