A mini Sydney Festival hub that opened in Sydney Town Hall yesterday will remain open until this Sunday (October 27), offering Sydneysiders new ways to interact and engage with the program — and the first opportunity to purchase tickets to Sydney Festival events.
Located in Lower Town Hall, the interactive multimedia exhibition functions as a live brochure to highlight key aspects of the program, with a jukebox to spin highlights from next year's Spiegeltent music offerings, video footage from some of the biggest events, and special displays relating to aspects of the program.
Visitors to the hub can see two special objects (loaned to Sydney Festival by the Australian War Memorial) representing the significant theatre work and world premiere, Black Diggers. Black Diggers will uncover the contribution of the First World War Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Diggers; 'Carmichael's Boomerang' (presented to Captain A C Carmichael in 1918 for recruiting a large number of Aboriginal Diggers) and the Military Medal awarded to Aboriginal Digger Frederik Prentice are on display.
Cult Melbourne group Boxwars have supplied a preview of one of the Mad Max-inspired suits they'll be wearing (and destroying) in the Parramatta Opening Party 2014 celebrations.
Festival director Lieven Bertels will offer guided tours of the exhibition, and a cash bar on Friday october 25 will get you in the mood for January. Visitors to the hub will also get the first bite at the cherry when it comes to buying single tickets to Sydney Festival, and a photographic chance to put themselves on the cover of the 2014 brochure.
If you can't make it to Sydney Town Hall by Sunday, you can purchase single tickets to Sydney Festival from 9am Monday October 28. Multipacks can be purchased now.
