Postcards From The Pits

Cosmic Baby
Founder and Publisher. Based in Brisbane.
Howard launched 'Scene Magazine' in 1993. Paul Keating was Prime Minister. Whitney, Janet and Mariah all had Aussie #1s and Mark Zuckerberg was 9. Over 30 years he's overseen the growth of scenestr to become Australia's largest – and only national – street press while forging a digital-first imperative in the mid-naughties. Social media remains a complete mystery to him. He's been spotted at raves, hip hop concerts, Motown revivals, judged battle of the bands, shot video for opening night and national awards red carpet, partnered with music industry showcases, comedy festivals and myriad other cultural productions ... and he interviewed Eddie Izzard. He likes Star Trek and a good Oxford comma — way too much fun at parties.

Jeff Polley will release his first book of photographs from an immense back catalogue of work from the Brisbane 90s club scene.

Polley was a prolific photographer and lead shutterman for iconic Brisbane street press, Scene Magazine between 1994 and 1999. From the pits, he shot everything and everyone — superstars to punters.

Jeff Polley'Postcards From The Pits' captures the vital intimacy of The Site, The Arena, The Tube and all the Brisbane venues which bore witness to the burgeoning dance scene.

The first, limited edition run of 200 copies will be released in the next few days and initially available in soft cover for $65. The hard cover edition edition is due shortly before Christmas.

The launch happens 4pm on Sunday December 15 at The Tivoli [BNE] prior to the Nile Rogers event. To order a copy, stay in touch at Postcards From The Pit Facebook page.
