PICA Is Seeking Basic Needs At Fringe World

'Seeking basic needs and other tales of excess' at Fringe World in Perth.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The streets are your stage. Take a pathway across Northbridge with a set of headphones and an open mind in this immersive audio performance.

Walk in step with migrant stories from around the world

Listen as an original soundscape unfolds with stories of migration – hear world-wide tales of struggle, joy and hope as the streets of Northbridge come alive with personal histories and see your city anew. With every cell in our body compelled to move – to migrate – what does it take to keep standing, to keep walking, to keep moving?

Made by local artists

Created by Perth-based Renée Newman, and made in collaboration with sound designer Ben Collins, 'Seeking basic needs and other tales of excess' is a new Western Australian work and a world premiere exploring immersive storytelling in public space.

Rediscover your city

Take a map. Put your headphones on. Slow down and see the people around you; the footpaths, the trees, the buildings. Walk at your own pace. Look up at the sky. Remember that you are in a place that is shared. The city moves as you move. This performance is a truly memorable experience that will leave you redreaming the world around you.

'Seeking basic needs and other tales of excess' is presented by Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA). PICA is both a producing and presenting institution that delivers a dynamic programme of curated exhibitions, seasons of contemporary performance, studio residencies and creative developments.

'Seeking basic needs and other tales of excess' plays at PICA Galleries from 27 January-17 February.
