Musical storyteller Phi Theodoros will share tales and shift stigmas with her debut solo show 'Who Is The Ukulele Dream Girl?' at Adelaide Fringe.
Phi first presented 'Who Is The Ukulele Dream Girl?' in 2019, inspiring her to take the show on the road so she can connect with more people and encourage them to make positive changes in their lives.
“This show kind of feels like the TED Talk that no-one asked me to write, except it's packed with poetry that critically analyses our world view, some plants and plenty of '90s sing-alongs,” Phi says.
“I’m also really excited to be touring this show to communities that I don’t usually perform to – the two regional shows have been extended to include local ukulele performers as a warm up act and a community jam session at the end.”
Phi says that with so much going on in the world, it's increasingly common for people to feel isolated and have difficulty connecting.
In 'Who Is The Ukulele Dream Girl?', Phi performs a mix of original music, covers, poetry and storytelling to inspire the audience to challenge their expectations of others and themselves.
“Music is so powerful to bring us together and I love to weave this through stories to help build more empathic and supportive communities across all spectrums of experience,” she says.

“I hope that audiences leave feeling inspired to make sustainable positive changes in their lives in a world we’ve often felt disempowered, oh, and I’d love for them to take a plant friend home from the 'Ukulele Dream Girl' Shop too. We all need more nature in our lives.”
Phi will also present a second show at Adelaide Fringe, 'Ukulele Dream Girl Does Amanda Palmer', her live musical tribute to the cultural icon, backed by a three-piece band.
“'Ukulele Dream Girl Does Amanda Palmer' is an homage to one of my heroes, to someone who has really harnessed the power of her art to build and sustain communities,” Phi explains.
“She is an inspiration to me in so many ways and I’m thrilled to have some of Adelaide’s finest from the musical theatre scene in my ‘Coin-Operated Band’ to bring this show to life for two nights only.”
