The Perth Fringe World 2023 early release is here, featuring 85 interstate and international shows on sale with more to come with the full programme in November.
“We’re thrilled to be welcoming interstate and international artists back to Perth,” ARTRAGE CEO Sharon Burgess says. “The last few years have been tough but live theatre is a tonic and there’s nothing like enjoying it in your own backyard.”
Fringe World will return to its home ground at Perth Cultural Centre in 2023, will the Lotterywest De Parel Spiegeltent featuring the ‘French and Saunders of drag’, Le Gateau Chocolat and Jonny Woo, as they present ‘A Night At The Musicals 3: Summer Loving Tour’.
Also at the Cultural Centre audiences will be able to catch ‘Drag Race Down Under’ star Anita Wigl’it in ‘Funny Gurl!’ and ‘Heath Franklin: Out Of Character’ which sees Heath step out from behind his ‘Chopper’ moustache.
The Pleasure Garden will feature the likes of Josh Glanc in ‘It’s great to be here’ and ‘Karen From Finance Is Doing Time’, as well as ever-present circus in ‘Le Aerial’, ‘Outrageous’, and ‘GODZ’.
New to 2023 is the hub Liberty Fringe, taking over Liberty Theatre with a comedy-heavy line-up including Michael Shafar who returns to Perth after a show deemed by Mark McGowan as too dangerous for WA in 2021-22 (mainly because Michael is from Melbourne), plus an Opening Weekend Comedy Gala jam-packed with international and Australian stand-up stars.
Over at the State Theatre Centre is The Australian premiere of ‘The Sensemaker’, a dystopian mix of theatre and dance about a woman battling an answering machine. The strength of women will also be on display in ‘TARA – Tuatha De Danann’ at Subiaco Arts Centre. On the other spectrum, ‘Viva GlasVegas: A Burlesque Showcase’ will have audiences cheering at The Sewing Room.
Myra DuBois’s ‘Be Well’ plays Connections, and Riley Nottingham’s ‘Manifesto’ takes place at Downstairs At The Maj.
