Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Darlinghurst Business Partnership President Stephan Gyory from The Record Store lists five albums perfect for Mardi Gras.

'Sweetness and Light' – ITCH-E & SCRATCH-E

In 1994 Paul Mac and Andy Rantzen delivered the seminal and timeless ‘sweetness and light’. Winner of the first ever ARIA for dance music and freshly re-released on Sydney’s own Motorik Records with a spanking Balearic breakbeat remix by For Life.

'The Best of Disco Demands' – compiled by Al Kent

The world famous BBE label presents a Double 2LP compilation of rare '70s dance music with exclusive re-edits. Disco, the first ‘dance music’ and the precursor for house music, is the perfect music to mince around in your favourite frock.

'Moon Safari' – AIR

Beautiful French electronic-lounge-pop. One of the best albums of all time and guaranteed to make your nipples so hard they will cut glass. Warning, keep this away from your significant other or they will play it on repeat until you have to hide it from them.

'Disco Devil' – Lee Scratch Perry

The public face of reggae, Lee Scratch Perry delivers the classic 'Disco Devil', famously sampled by The Prodigy for their classic rave tune, 'Outta Space'. A perfect tune for your Sunday come-down ;)

'Double Exposure' – The Stars of Salsoul

Featuring mixes by Masters at Work, Joe Claussel, Tom Moulton, Walter Gibbons and Bobby Guttadara. Yes, we know we’re going a bit retro here but, you know, Mardi Gras is 40 so we thought we’d celebrate the '70s and what better way to do it than with a giant splooge of Disco.

Oxtravaganza takes place on 24 February at Oxford Street, with Mardi Gras running until 4 March.
