Open Letter From Head First Acrobat Thomas Gorham About Elixir

'Elixir'
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The Head First Acrobats are blending circus with science in 'Elixir' as part of Wonderland Festival.

After taking out Best Circus and Physical Theatre at Adelaide Fringe, the boys have returned for another attempt at creating the elixir of life.

Here, performer and Head First Acrobat Thomas Gorham pens an open letter about the show.

“'Elixir' is the pride and joy of our little company. It was our first production and became the flagship show of the company over the last four years. It combines comedy, teamwork, storytelling and acrobatics together in a melting pot of stupidity and hilarity.

The show has changed so much over the last five years, thinking back to the first two iterations (which were so sloppy compared to now), the show started as a duo show under the same name wayyyy back in the Melbourne Fringe in 2013, and has never stopped being worked on until its final form which took place at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017. The show kickstarted our careers and the company by taking us all over the world, we were lucky enough to get to Brighton Fringe in the UK off the back of our first Australian Tour in 2015, and we won our first award in Brighton. The whole time we were just trying to get by, and having as much fun as we could along the way.

Elixir 20183

We honestly never dreamed that our show about scientists, potions and zombies would take us around the world, but here we are 4-5 years later, we have sold out in Fringes all over, finally won that best circus award in Adelaide, and we are about to do a final run of 'Elixir' here in Brisbane (which is our first time in Brisbane).

So I invite you to come check us out at the Powerhouse, you won't be disappointed, honestly the show is awesome, the most common feedback we get is 'that's the best show I've ever seen'. Come see us, you're gonna laugh and probably lose your s..t.”
– Thomas Gorham

'Elixir' plays Brisbane Powerhouse 29 November-1 December.
