The CHEW On This Charity Exhibition hopes to raise funds for SA Dog Rescue in the name of art. The event will feature works from some of Adelaide's most passionate artists.
Here, host Tayla Carlaw pens an open letter about SA Dog Rescue and the importance of this event.
“While I watched my dogs Ellie and Alfie struggle to fit themselves on my partner Adam's lap, I thought back to when I first got them and how petrified they were of men. Six years (and kilos) ago I adopted them through SA Dog Rescue, as previously neglected and abused adult dogs. They were listed as a pair, and best-suited to a home that would take the time to build up their trust again.
One of the most amazing things about SA Dog Rescue is that they not only give animals a second chance but strive to connect the right pets with the right owner. They place the animals with the most desirable candidates, with consideration given to breed, behaviour and the applicant most suited to the breed. They also consider yard size and the activity level of both the animal and the applicant.
These vetting procedures help to avoid the animals being abandoned or neglected in the future and ensure a happy fur-ever home.
SA Dog Rescue is a non-profit organisation that are dedicated to saving pets from euthanasia, they help find them new homes where they can live the happy life they deserve. As they are a responsible rescue service, they ensure all animals are desexed and microchipped and any medical problems are addressed. Unfortunately, these services are not cheap so they are always seeking donations, and fundraising for costly vet bills. The everyday costs such as food and bedding for the many neglected, abused and abandoned pets also need to be raised.
These essentials make it easier for the dedicated SA Dog Rescue foster carers to provide a comfortable environment where the animals can adjust to a normal life, so they are ready for their forever home. I thought... Everyone loves dogs and art so why not allow the two to support each other? I reached out to a bunch of artists who are all as diverse as the pets being rescued. They range from Realism to Impressionistic, Abstract, Graffiti, and Tattooist and here we are!
With up to thirty artists, there is something for everyone. That is how CHEW On This Charity Exhibition was created! Half the proceeds made from CHEW On This will be donated to SA Dog Rescue. So come and show your support for the incredible work they do and hopefully we can make a difference to the animals that deserve a second chance at life.”
