Adelaide’s favourite acrobats, Gravity & Other Myths, have been nominated for a 2015 Australian Dance Award in the Physical Theatre category.
Storming the world with their show, ‘A Simple Space’ since 2013, Gravity & Other Myths have rarely stopped back home between continents. Scenestr checked in with the gang to hear what they had to say to Adelaide in the lead up to awards night.
“Dear Adelaide – our home town,
Thanks for nurturing us to the point we are at today. Thanks for having Cirkidz where we honed our skill, made great friends, and sprained, twisted and broke ourselves. Also, thanks Cirkidz for building yourself so conveniently close to that Vietnamese deli with your delicious Vietnamese rolls.

Thanks for having audiences that like acrobatics, and came to our shows even when we were just starting out. You have helped us build from audiences of 5 to sold-out audiences of more than 500. We recently performed in a venue called Tohu in Montreal, which was a dream come true for us. So many of our influences and heroes have performed in that room.
Sorry we’re not around very much. We really do love you, but we also love travelling, showing new people what we can do, and sampling the doner kebabs from as many countries as possible. These experiences will help us build ourselves further as well, so that when we come back, we can perform even better stuff for you. It’s really just for you Adelaide. One day we will settle down together, permanently in our own custom-built venue. We will perform at your will, serenade you and feed you strawberries. It will be so romantic.

Anyway, let’s not get carried away too soon... Until then though, we will be sure to visit you regularly enough. We’ve been with you for every one of your festival seasons since we can remember, and don’t plan on missing them any time soon. Your festival is definitely our favourite, and rivals all of the festivals we have visited.

You might not have heard our exciting news. We’ve been nominated for a dance award! Most of our dance experience is limited to after 1:00am on a Friday or Saturday night, but maybe this award will push us in a new direction. Maybe our biggest member (190cm tall, 94kg) will learn how to do a flawless pirouette. Needless to say, we’re thrilled to have been nominated, and have to credit some of our fortune to you Adelaide. So once again, thank you for all that you have done to support us and help to get us to where we are today. We will be forever in your debt. See you soon Adelaide.
