The role of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the upcoming Australian production of Broadway hit ‘Annie’, will be played by original Yellow Wiggle, Greg Page.
The Australian production of ‘Annie’ is set to hit Sydney’s Capitol Theatre this March, before heading to Melbourne’s Princess Theatre in July.
Greg Page’s passion for performing began early. He quickly became a household name as part of The Wiggles, co-creating numerous hit songs, television series and live tours. Page joins a stellar cast, led by Anthony Warlow as Oliver ‘Daddy’ Warbucks and Debora Krizak as Miss Hannigan.
“If you know the musical at all, you’ll know that this is a pivotal role, because Annie comes in to the President of the United States and changes his outlook on the future of the country of the USA, because Annie is such an inspirational character,” Greg Page says on his socials. “It’s a fun, nostalgic musical for all the family. So, if you’d love to come along and see me as FDR – and many of the other talented cast, of course – make sure you book your tickets, and get along and see ‘Annie’. Looking forward to seeing you there.”
Meanwhile, rising star Mackenzie Dunn will play Lily St. Regis, Keanu Gonzalez will play ‘Rooster’ Hannigan, and Amanda Lea LaVergne will step into the shoes of Grace Farrell. The iconic role of Annie will be shared by four gifted performers: Beatrix Alder, Matilda Casey, Dakota Chanel and Stephanie McNamara.
‘Annie’ is based on the popular Harold Gray comic strip ‘Little Orphan Annie’. The strip debuted in 1924, running for more than 80 years. Now, the musical it inspired is one of the most awarded and loved of all time, winning seven Tony Awards, the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, seven Drama Desk Awards, and a GRAMMY Award.
“I’m thrilled that Greg has agreed to join the world of musical theatre to play FDR,” Producer John Frost says. “Audiences of all ages know Greg as the Yellow Wiggle and I’m sure will be keen to see him alongside our cast of outstanding performers led by Anthony, Deb, Mackenzie, Keanu and Amanda. This is going to be a brilliant production of 'Annie' for a whole new generation. Line up now to buy your tickets to one of the most delightful and inspiring musicals of all time. Don’t wait until Tomorrow!”
‘Annie’ plays Capitol Theatre (Sydney) 25 March-1 June, and Princess Theatre (Melbourne) from July.
