North Australian Festival Of Arts 2024 Programme

'GODZ'
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The North Australian Festival Of Arts (NAFA) is getting ready to shine with a star-studded programme of arts, comedy, dance, music, collaboration and more in 2024.

The programme consists of 89 shows, more than 430 performances, and 800 artists. . . Performing across 15 venues throughout Townsville (Queensland).

There’s something for everyone, like Coral Chronicles: Weaving Stories Of The Underwater World. The exhibition is comprised solely of netting collected from the ocean.

Stand-up comedian Tommy Little will hit the stage with ‘Tommy Little’s Got A Regular Sized Deck’, full of thigh-slapping punchlines and belly laughs. ‘Camp Culture’ is a sassy and bold show using humour and heart to empower unrepresented voices.

Next up, Head First Acrobats present ‘GODZ’, promising to be a captivating evening of comedy, entertainment, and acrobatic theatre. It’s a unique mix of storytelling, circus and physical prowess.

The programme continues with the internationally acclaimed Seagulls, flocking to Townsville from Melbourne. Snuff Puppets have built an international reputation for puppetry which breaks down barriers between performer and audience.

The Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts presents Judy Watson’s internationally acclaimed exhibition Skeletons. Judy’s approach is influenced by her cultural identity, with both lived and inherited experiences as a Waanyi woman from Northwest Queensland.

“At the heart of every festival is great art – and at the heart of great art are the artists themselves. The invitation to support NAFA as Guest Curator in 2024 has brought with it an incredible opportunity to work with artists and bring incredible performances to audiences in Gurambilbarra, Townsville,” NAFA 2024 Guest Curator Kyle Page says.

“Festivals reflect communities, echoing our challenges, triumphs, hopes, and dreams in profound, often wordless ways. This artistic mirror invites us to (re)imagine new ways to navigate an increasingly complex and polarised world – at their best, festivals remind us of our shared humanity and the essential elements of a life well lived. NAFA 2024 is an invitation to do the living of life well, together.”

Tickets are on sale now.

The North Australian Festival Of Arts is on in Townsville from 26 September-13 October.
