National Young Writers' Festival 2014

Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Under the umbrella event This Is Not Art comes the National Young Writers' Festival (NYWF).

Held annually in Newcastle, the NYWF is Australia's largest gathering of young and innovative writers, giving them a place to present their work, share ideas and engage in the industry.Young writers will get to meet with other like-minded people in a friendly, festival atmosphere to discuss their passion for literature and network with industry professionals.

Focusing on creating opportunities for writers aged 18-35, the festival encourages all ages to attend and get involved. For those writers 13-17, there is a Younger Young Writers' Program.

Working in both modern and traditional forms of writing — including zines, comics, blogging, screenwriting, poetry, spoken word, hip hop music, journalism, autobiography, comedy, songwriting and prose — the festival presents writing in its broadest sense through panels, discussions, workshops, launches, performances, readings, installations, and more.

With more than 60 unique and inspiring events, this year's special guest writers include Benjamin Law, Clementine Ford, Omar Musa and Lawrence Leung, with more to be announced soon.

This Is Not Art presents the National Young Writers' Festival in Newcastle, October 2-5.
