Mullum Circus Festival (NSW) will now be known as National Circus Festival.
Along with this name change comes a handful of first shows taking place as part of the 2021 event – the first under the new branding.
National Circus Festival will be held at Mullumbimby Showground in September, hosting a dual programme with two distinct streams including a four-day National Training Program, assembling some of Australia’s best performers in one location to collaborate, trial shows and develop work.
Then, following this, the festival will go into full swing, featuring a programme of more than 50 events across three days.
‘Collision’ is the B-boy, hip hop and hula hooper, pop and lock cross-pollination of contemporary circus and street dance, seeing Casus Circus and Mad Dance House combine and collaborate. Joining them is acrobatic and performance artist Alex Mizzen, presenting her award-winning solo show.
Also playing the festival is international hula hooper artist Anna Fisher, and the visual art/circus hybrid ‘December’ from Jack Silvestro, a solo physical performance marking Australian history and honouring those affected by the 2020 fires.
Victoria’s Circus Trick Tease presents ‘Werk It’, a celebration of spandex, high-vis, vitality and vigour. Big tricks delivered by an all-star cast. Plus, Canberra’s Warehouse Youth Circus will make the trip up.

Kamilaroi man from Mungindi, Dale Woodbridge-Brown from ‘Briefs: Close Encounters’ will be MC for the festival.
The event will also host some of Byron Shire’s bright stars, from bubble man, circus and sideshow artist Dr Hubble, Spaghetti graduate success story Hannah Richards and Spaghetti Circus’ new troupe show ‘Bails Of Hey!’.
“After our hiatus with the festival, it feels great to come back in such a strong fashion with new branding and an amazing programme – this early release is just a tip of the iceberg of what we’re offering in 2021,” National Circus Festival Director Alice Cadwell says.
“This year’s festival will truly be a celebration of circus for everyone with world-class shows, broad training programme featuring highly-skilled teaching artists, fun for the whole family, unexpected delights, a giant Globe, great food and coffee and so much more.”
National Circus Festival Training Program is on from 20-23 September, and the Festival Weekend is 24-26 September, at Mullumbimby Showground (NSW).
