Brisbane's MELT Queer Fest Lives On: 4 Things To See Before It's Over

'Get Ready!'
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

With Brisbane Powerhouse's MELT Festival of Queer Arts and Culture kicked into gear, there's still time to grab tickets for events across the ten days.

Up to 35 productions are taking over the Powerhouse, so there's no shortage of fun and thought-provoking works to feast your eyes on.

We've narrowed it down and listed four things that will be worth heading along to out of the jam-packed programme of 2019.

One

MELT Portrait Prize. The annual MELT Portrait Prize gives visual artists the creative license to celebrate heroes in the LGBTIQ+ community; whether it be a local icon or an internationally acclaimed personality.

Two

Get Ready! With Ruby Slippers And Friends. An interactive two hour makeup party – talk show meets tutorial meets a LIVE Get Ready With Me!

Three

The Bowery Haus. A costume party celebrating inclusivity, self-expression and one of Australia’s most legendary queer icons, Leigh Bowery.

Four

Baby Bi Bi Bi. Cabaret about being a bisexual woman complete with entirely original music, boasting titles such as 'Do I Wanna Be You (Or Do I Wanna F... You?)', 'Salad With The Girls, But In A Gay Way' and 'Portable Closet'.

MELT Festival is on at Brisbane Powerhouse from 27 June-7 July.
