Shakespeare’s ultimate tragedy, ‘Hamlet’, will mark Melbourne Shakespeare Company’s (MSC) return to fortyfivedownstairs after sell-out seasons of ‘Julius Caesar’ and ‘King Lear’.

Melbourne Shakespeare Company is known as one of the biggest independent theatre companies in Melbourne, boasting more than 20 productions since inception. It is renowned for exceptional contemporary adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays in relaxed outdoor settings.

Jacob Collins-Levy (‘Doctor Who’, ‘Prosper’) will lead an all-star cast in ‘Hamlet’, playing the titular role. He’s a star of stage and screen, treating Melbourne audiences to a rare theatrical experience. Joining him on stage are a distinguished ensemble of actors including some familiar faces from previous MSC Studio seasons.

Natasha Herbert (‘Harry Potter And The Cursed Child’, ‘Macbeth (an undoing)’) returns to the company as Gertrude, opposite the multi award-winning actor and director Peter Houghton (‘The Heartbreak Choir’) as Claudius. Also featured in the show are Aisha Aidara as Ophelia, Laurence Boxall as Laertes, Darren Gilshenan as Polonius, Darcy Kent as Horatio, Ben Walter as Marcellus, Dulcie Smart as The Player Queen, Gareth Reeves as The Player King, Emmanuelle Mattana as Rosencratz, Orion Carey-Clark as Guildenstern, Simon Maiden as Barnardo and The Gravedigger, Christopher Stollery as The Ghost, Terry Yeboah as Reynaldo and Osric, and Gispa as Fortinbras and Lucianus.

‘Hamlet’ plays fortyfivedownstairs (Melbourne) 5-22 September.
