Melbourne’s Fed Square To Get Festive All December Long

Fed Square
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and some beyond.

Fed Square in Melbourne is set to become the city’s hub of festive fun and celebration, bringing 34 free events and experiences for all.

The Main Square will transform into the magical Christmas Square as part of the City Of Melbourne’s free, city-wide Christmas Festival. Melburnians can continue the annual tradition of taking family photos by magnificent decorations like light-up bell swings, the 17.5 metre Christmas tree. . . And a life-size snow globe!

This year, for the first time, The Australian Ballet’s Christmas classic ‘The Nutcracker’ will be live-streamed straight to the Fed Square big screen, from the Sydney Opera House stage.

Koorie Krismas, presented by Koorie Heritage Trust, is an opportunity for families to spend a fun-filled day with free live music, DJs, dance performances and a special appearance by Koorie Klaus. Plus, there’ll be a First Peoples market from artists and creators.

Free films will be presented on the big screen – visitors are invited to grab some takeaway from one of Fed Square’s restaurants and settle in for films like ‘It's a Wonderful Life’, ‘Meet Me In St Louis’, ‘The Polar Express’, ‘The Santa Clause’ and ‘Elf’.

“Across December, Fed Square will once again transform into a vibrant celebration of lights, music, and community spirit with a packed programme of experiences and events for all the family – and all of it is FREE,” Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation CEO Katrina Sedgwick says.

“Fed Square is also the best place for your Christmas shopping with fabulous gift ideas stocked in the brilliant stores run by ACMI, KHT and NGV, including late-night shopping for the first time. Who knew that Christmas shopping could be so much fun!”
