'Luminous' emerges from the glitz and excitement of the Adelaide Fringe, plunging the audience into a world of darkness, where creatures gradually emerge, created like a visceral gallery in flux.
The show is designed and directed by body painting heavyweight Jessica Watson Miller, who has won multiple international competitions for her art, and paints live in the show. The choreographed appearance and movement of paint in the darkness is mesmerising enough that the acrobatics are just an added bonus; disembodied heads float in the darkness, as Jessica works her magic and bodies are illuminated before our eyes.
Ultraviolet alien creatures are created from the darkness, drawing the audience in like an anglerfish in the ocean depths. The performer’s movements are hypnotic as they interact together, scrapping like a team of neon bullies. They create a world that challenges our conceptions of what the body is and can do. Alien flora and props also appear from the darkness provide a sense of gravity-defying wonder as well as some comedic moments.

'Luminous' has been lauded with recognition - it's in the top 4 audience favourites of the Adelaide Fringe 2015, and a favourite in the UK. It is unlike anything you’ll get to see, let’s face it, probably ever, thanks to the incredible ultraviolet talent that is at work on stage. It’s a great show to catch a glimpse of during the Adelaide Fringe, before it disappears.
'Luminous' performs Gluttony until 14 March as part of Adelaide Fringe Festival.
