The world’s most successful live dance show ‘Lord Of The Dance’ has tapped its way into QPAC’s Concert Hall, with a new show called ‘Dangerous Games’.
Michael Flatley has been on the Irish dancing scene for over 20 years, and ‘Lord Of The Dance’ is a creation of his own. Choreographed and produced by the man himself, the show is about the fight between good and evil, and the battle to become the ‘Lord Of The Dance’, seemingly the most honourable title a man can be given.
The show was divided into many different sections. It wouldn’t have been a Michael Flatley production without those mesmerising, fast-paced numbers where pairs upon pairs of tap-shoe wearing feet formed lines and danced in circles on stage. There was plenty of that, and this reviewer was not disappointed.
If you were able to follow each step with your eyes, you’d be considered a freak. How these dancers were able to move so quickly in such a short time is still a mystery.

Splitting up these often-overwhelming performances were an array of songs performed by a woman in different sparkling gown each time, as well as a particularly talented pair that strung away at their fiddles while the audience clapped and cheered in admiration.
The story followed the journey of 'Little Spirit', a girl who wanted to help good overcome evil by defeating the Dark Lord. She followed the Good Lord on his way, overcoming obstacles and pushing through boundaries. The Good Lord also encountered a love triangle, dancing – literally – between two women, one good and one evil.
Finally, the reigning Lord met his nemesis, and the two battled it out. Good, of course, trumped evil, and his army of soldiers danced in celebration.
The response from the audience was electric, and the dancers performed an encore after a video screen on stage showed Michael Flatley performing a trio with two other Flatley’s, thanks to the magic of special effects.
The show overall was an explosion of Irish dance culture, weaving between energetically overwhelming footwork and graceful, elegant routines.
Four out of five dancing shoes!
