The South Australian Living Artists Festival brings art to the forefront, celebrating and exhibiting the work of local artists and graduates from Adelaide Central School of Art.
The new exhibition 'Daily Practice' will explore the commitment from each artist to maintaining a daily arts practice and keeping a journal. It will be opened by Professor Ian Gibbins, of Flinders University.
Annalise Rees and Sally Parnis will have their work displayed for all to view at the Adelaide Central Gallery in a digital form, and all viewers are invited to become voyeurs. The artists' journals will provide an insight into the creative process of their work, and how each has taken a journey to explore an idea that will be turned into a completed artwork.
Annalise completed a two-month expedition in the sub-Antarctic, making her the voyage artist on the CSIRO Investigator. Her graphite drawings from this expedition will be displayed alongside her journals at the exhibition.
Painting by Sally ParnisSally bases a collection of her printed and lightbox drawings on her daily sketches, and these will also be on display. Oil paintings demonstrating her process from digital form to paintings will allow the viewer to gain knowledge on how art can be transformed from one medium to another.
Ingrid Kellenbach, CEO of the Adelaide Central School of Art, says documenting the journey of art from start to finish is extremely important. “Routine activity builds the foundations of a sustained and successful practice, which is what we value here at the school.”
'Daily Practice' shows at Adelaide Central Gallery from 6 July – 6 August.
