A new performance venue has opened its doors in Adelaide's West End, providing another place for musicians and performers to shine.
Light ADL will be a continuously evolving and developing project, with both the artist and the audience at its heart. The first venue to be opened in the project, a 150-year-old building, is The Lab.
The Lab is a digitally immersive, multifunctional, multi-genre performance space lined with LED video screens. The venue allows artists to fully express their ideas and create unique experiences.
The Lab will also allow artists to play with new ideas and develop new work.
Adam Page, South Australian Playwrights Theatre, Hilary Kleinig, Emma Horwood, Carla Lippis, DJ Tr!p, Luka Kukuku and Steve Tilling, MRLN, Samuel Hall / Lewis Major Projects all performed in the venue's opening and will perform their own headline shows in the space later in the year.
"We want the venue to be an available, accessible and comfortable space where new work is commissioned and people come to play with tech that hasn't been on offer before," Music SA Chair Anne Wiberg says.
Aurora Restaurant and Little Mission Cafe are two other venues involved with Light ADL.
