'Latin y Flamenco'

It's time to go on a journey into the world of Flamenco.

'Latin y Flamenco', presented by Aire Flamenco, will blend traditional Spanish Flamenco music and dance with Latin influences. Audiences can expect to experience a traversal of rich culture, from South America to Spain.

Aire Flamenco dancer Maree Laffan founded the Aire Flamenco ensemble, with the aim to share the richness, beauty, passion and art that is Flamenco. Now, they return to Fringe World to continue this mission, joined by guitarist and vocalist Jeremias Sosa (Argentina) and energetic former Cirque du Soleil percussionist Marcus Perrozzi.

Here, we sit down with Maree Laffan to chat all things Flamenco, Fringe, and taking the audience travelling while not even needing to leave the Fringe World stage.

First of all, what are you most looking forward to about bringing this show to Fringe World?

Presenting the richness of the Spanish culture spanning Spanish Flamenco to the music of South America.

Why is it the perfect place to present ‘Latin y Flamenco’?

Downstairs at His Majesty’s Theatre has an intimate feel, like a classic traditional tablao setting in Spain.

It’s a place you’ve performed at for a few years now. What are you excited to see while you’re there in 2026?

Sharing the show and repertoire to a new audience.

Talk about the journey you’ll be taking audiences on in ‘Latin y Flamenco’.

Jeremias Sosa on guitar and vocals joins the Aire Flamenco troupe to present a Spanish showcase. Vuelta translates as ‘roundtrip’. Many Flamenco rhythms and dances are influences the Spanish gained by travelling to South America and returning to reintroduce the style into the mainstream Flamenco repertoire. Examples include the Guarijas, Colombiana and Rumba. The show will travel musically across South America and feature Flamenco dance from Spain and these connections.

What have you drawn upon in the world of Flamenco to bring it to life?

Jeremias is weaving a story in music across South America from Ecuador, Peru, Argentina to Cuba to feature the music of this region. Aire Flamenco draws from the rich history of Flamenco and its many influences and features music and dance from various regions and districts in Spain.

What would you say is the biggest challenge in putting a performance like this together?

Creating an engaging show for the audience that tells a story.

Tell us a bit about the performers joining you in this show and what they bring.

Jeremias Sosa (Guitar & Vocals) hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Sosa’s debut album, ‘Coming Back Home In Two Footsteps’ features ‘A Taste Of Honey’, which won the ‘World’ category at the WAM Song Of The Year Awards in mid-2017. The album itself offers a diversity of Sosa’s musical spirit – many styles, many places, many sounds to revel in. Jeremias elegantly takes the audience on a musical journal across Latin America and Spain.

Marcus Perrozzi (Percussion) toured the world, playing percussion in the internationally acclaimed show 'Dralion' by Cirque du Soleil. Collaboration with Jeremias commenced several years ago, initially as the featured act at the opening of the Busselton Fringe to a sold-out audience. They have since continued to develop shows, repertoire and storylines.
