The 2019 season of La Boite Theatre Company has officially been announced.
It features the return of old friends as well as the introduction of some new Australian work and the retelling of a classic.
Season 2019 kicks off with a bang. Michelle Law's universally-adored 'Single Asian Female' – which premiered at La Boite last year – returns to its home after a sold-out season at Belvoir in Sydney.

“Michelle Law is a voice to be reckoned with and her ripper debut play is back by popular demand, with original cast members Emily Burton, Patrick Jhanur, Courtney Stewart and Hsiao-Ling Tang reprising their roles for this encore season,” La Boite Artistic Director Todd MacDonald says.
Continuing La Boite's partnership with Queensland University of Technology (QUT), La Boite and QUT will present a modern reimagining of the classic 'Romeo And Juliet', directed by Todd and guest starring Queensland favourite Lucas Stibbard.
“La Boite and QUT’s production of 'Romeo And Juliet' takes no prisoners; reimagined for today through the energy and passion of a new generation,” Todd says.
Developed through La Boite's HWY programme and being presented in September is 'From Darkness', a fiercely funny Indigenous work by Steven Oliver following a modern family on a journey that challenges us to listen to how connected – or not – we are to the world.

Tying a red ribbon on the main stage season is an extended run of 'Christmas Actually' by The Little Red Company, starring Queensland's first lady of song Naomi Price.
Naomi will be joined by a band of top Australian musicians and superstar vocalists as she burns through hits from the beloved film 'Love Actually'.
In addition to the four main stage shows, three additional boutique experiences will also present themselves for theatregoers.

shake & stir's 'Revolting Rhymes & Dirty Beasts' returns as part of its national tour, 'HWY' is back for an action-packed two weeks and 'Open Homes' by Jeffrey Tan invites audiences into Brisbane homes with personal stories, histories and anecdotes.
The 94-year commitment La Boite Theatre Company has had to experimenting, discovering and reinventing will continue in 2019 as it plays host to three artist residencies: Mad Dance House, Bleached Arts and Opera Queensland.
“In 2019, we invite you to experience the thrill of our unique Roundhouse Theatre - the only true theatre-in-the-round in Australia – and a season that has something for everyone," Todd MacDonald says.
