Klara McMurray will be hotting up the Anywhere Theatre Festival with her cabaret alter-ego, Miss K.

Audiences were first wowed by cabaret veteran Klara McMurray's latest show, 'Miss K Is... Wrong.com!' during Adelaide Fringe. Now, McMurray is bringing the show to Brisbane for her very first visit. McMurray describes the show as a satirical look at the technology-obsessed culture in which we live. “It's a social commentary on the times that we're living in and the change in the way we communicate. It's about consumerism, voyeurism, narcissism, self-obsession, and has Miss K exploring all those things.”

The show was penned by McMurray, including all the songs. McMurray cites great storytellers such as Paul Kelly and Leonard Cohen as primary influences, although she also describes the comedic tone of the show as being similar in style to artists like Flight Of The Conchords.

Reception to the show has been positive so far. “I had a lot of people say, with guilt in their eyes, that I was writing about them,” Klara says. “And a lot of older audiences, they really liked being able to relate to the concept that it is quite difficult to navigate this world, especially if you're not technologically okay.”

Initially, 'Miss K Is... Wrong.com!' will be performed at Johnny Brown's in Fortitude Valley, which marks Klara's first time putting on a show in a bar/ cafe setting. However, more interesting is Klara's participation with Anywhere Theatre Festival's 'Theatre At Home' concept. “Basically, if anyone wants to gather a group of people, I will go and perform in their home. That can be anything from their lounge room, garage, backyard, any kind of area they can fit people in. I think it's got quite a '70s feel to it, where you're bringing culture into your own home. “The highlight is always meeting people in really different environments. There's a pleasure to that, especially with people who aren't used to seeing cabaret and such.”

‘Miss K Is Wrong.com!’ runs at Padre Bar, Woolloongabba May 8, 9 & 10.
