Jessie Gordon Presents An Uplifting Show At Fringe World Signifying Greater Times Ahead

Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

It's time to turn over a new leaf.

This time machine of a show, 'Jessie Gordon Presents', is exactly what it says on the tin: jazz singer and musician Jessie Gordon presenting a repertoire of music set to have audiences forgetting their worries and looking to the future.

We've re-entered the roaring twenties as Jessie plays Master Of Ceremonies, fresh off the plane from no where and ready to entertain.

“This show will be the 2020s meets 1920s,” Jessie describes. “It features songs from the 1920s by inspiring women who took no prisoners like Bessie Smith and Sophie Tucker, but it also includes original songs of mine.”

So, expect a night filled with music, storytelling and humour lubricated of course by some deliciously fabulous cocktails. 'Jessie Gordon Presents' is as much a break-up letter to 2020 as it is a love letter to 2021.

Jessie says the setlist is filled with uplifting messaging as well as a few tracks which allow a bit of playfulness and the fulfilment of desires and dirty deeds.

“Ultimately I've searched for songs that are invitations to celebrate ourselves and each other, from Irving Kaufman's 'I Love Me, I'm Wild About Myself' to 'I'm Nobody's Gal' by Dolly Kay to Sophie Tucker's 'Take Off Your Mask and Be Yourself'.

“It's the show I need after 2020: irreverent and loving, a gentle reminder to be playful whenever possible.”

'Jessie Gordon Presents' plays The Ellington Jazz Club 5-14 February.
