Immoral Kombat – Choose Your Player's Destiny At Adelaide Fringe

Feathers flay this Adelaide Fringe as glamour geeks wage war in a fighting game of a very different kind – 'Immoral Kombat'.

Loosely inspired by video games such as 'Mortal Kombat', the live-action 'Immoral Kombat' sees eight players test their might in one-on-one rounds of improvised burlesque.

'Immoral Kombat' definitely doesn’t have the level of gore of recently released 'Mortal Kombat 11' or that the 'Mortal Kombat' movie (which wrapped filming in Adelaide in December) is predicted to have; but with arguably more reveals, it will be just as sexy and many times more silly.

“If you think about the premise of 'Mortal Kombat',” 'Immoral Kombat' Creator Mema Sifa says, “a realm’s best fighters must battle each other in a tournament so their ruler can ultimately take over the known universe, 'Immoral Kombat' is pretty much the same. We’ve just replaced the blood with glitter.”

They’ve also replaced deadly fans with silk fans, whips with belly dance wings, and chains with canes. In each round, players are armed with burlesque weaponry.

Like their video game inspirations, with every release the game gets bigger and better. This year cosplaying Kitana, poster girl and former winner Saskia De Muir will take over the controller position as host.

“We've got a whole lot of new players competing this year. I saw Paul Westbrook [Rouge] do a demo as a boss last year. This year, he's playing. So, this year I'm not. . . I don't want to go up against that!" De Muir says.

“Yeah”, Sifa adds. “It’s going to be next level”.

Standing in Paul's way will be a bevy of seven other burlesque battlers, pole performers and even a Riot City wrestler (Matt Hayter) strip-improvising. Who will undo their buttons in the right combo for a flawless victory is up to the audience!

In addition to their own soft wares, as the tournament progresses players will release some very unusual characters. Previous tournaments have seen parodies of everyone from Dame Edna to Darth Vader to Trump.

“I’ve seen Austin Powers be out-stripped by a tennis pro. I’ve seen Deadpool hurl confetti from her bedazzled crotch at Freddy Krueger, anything could happen.”

Fight!

'Immoral Kombat' plays The Flamingo at Gluttony – Rymill Park 29 February.
