Illuminate Adelaide 2023 Programme

Illuminate Adelaide
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Winter is set to come alive in Adelaide as it illuminates in an explosion of art, light, music and technology for Illuminate Adelaide.

The programme for 2023 boasts immersive experiences, world premieres and Adelaide exclusives, in a range of ticketed and free events across the city. World-renowned multimedia studio Moment Factory will showcase two new experiences; creative geniuses Architects Of Air will introduce an Australian exclusive; and the city-wide centrepiece City Lights returns.

There’s also music in the programme – genre-defying visual series KLASSIK Underground, electronic music event Unsound Adelaide, and dedicated concerts at Hindley Street Music Hall from Yothu Yindi, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Tourist.

Taking the stage at Nexus Arts will be rapper DOBBY, bouncing between piano, drums and drum pads to showcase his signature ‘drapping’ (drumming and rapping) style.

International highlights from this year’s Unsound programme include Space Afrika (UK) Sofie Birch and Antonina Nowacka (DNK/POL), rapper bbymutha (USA) and more.

Distinctive music programme Live At The Lab will feature each weekend across four weeks. Light and sound will converge to present cutting-edge music.

Illuminate Adelaide will also proudly commission Shifting Perspectives, a mesmerising, immersive study of light and darkness, shape and movement, perception and reality. . . The latest work from celebrated Australian troupe Restless Dance Theatre.

“We are once again transforming winter nights and after the overwhelming response to our 2022 programme, we are delighted to announce an expanded, curated programme of experiences, installations, and performances showcasing the very best examples of the convergence of art and technology our city and the world has to offer,” Illuminate Co-Founders/Creative Directors Lee Cumberlidge and Rachael Azzopardi say.

“We look forward to welcoming hundreds of thousands of South Australians and visitors to our state into the city and we are excited by the prospect of people gathering to connect with one another to celebrate art, light, music and technology.”

Illuminate Adelaide is on from 28 June-30 July.
